Background

In case you have just found this blog, my name is Liam, and in the latter part of 2024, I travelled from Perth Scotland to Perth Australia entirely by land and sea.

Using trains, buses, cruise ships and a hire car, I travelled over 20,000 miles in the space of two and a half months. My voyage took in 10 countries, 14 US states and around 30 destinations (listed below).

My journey was inspired by Jules Verne's Around the World in Eighty Days which I read as a kid, and watching TV travel presenter Michael Palin recreating that trip.

I arrived in Perth on St Andrews Day 2024 (appropriate as I am a Scot), where I am studying IT. I hope that my IT studies will provide a location-independent career, allowing me to do more travelling while I work, and fund future adventures like this one.

For those of you who followed me on my journey, this will be my final regular post.

However, there is still plenty of travelling I would like to do while I’m here, including: ‘The Ghan’ railway (from Darwin to Adelaide); Tasmania; New Zealand; Tahiti; Asia; and Rottnest Island. So stay tuned and I will post updates on those trips if I can get the money together to fund them. Thanks for reading!
